Development
The Healthcare Club is committed to helping its members with their professional development. The Club also has numerous programs dedicated to those members who are looking to transition into the healthcare industry (i.e. career switchers).

Recruiting
Harvard Business School students are recruited by a wide variety of healthcare organizations, including healthcare startups, venture capital firms, consulting firms, investment banking, managed health plans, hospital systems, e-health firms, pharmaceutical firms, medical device manufacturers, and biotechnology companies. Nearly 10% of HBS students who graduated last year found jobs in the healthcare industry at organizations ranging from Fortune 100 companies to start-ups to non-profit groups. See the bottom of this page for a list of companies that have recruited at HBS in recent years.
Whether students have previous experience in healthcare or are career-switchers, HBS provides an ideal environment in which students can prepare for future careers in the industry. Students are taught by faculty members who have made notable contributions to the body of knowledge related to the business of healthcare, and who have extraordinary access to companies in the U.S. and abroad. HBS students also have access to healthcare expertise throughout Harvard University, including at the Harvard School of Public Health, the John F. Kennedy School of Government, and Harvard Medical School.
Students prepare for future leadership roles in healthcare through coursework and extensive extracurricular activities (such as speaker series, mentor programs and networking activities), as well as hands-on experience through summer internships and field studies.

FIELD STUDY OPPORTUNITIES IN HEALTHCARE
Second-year students interested in healthcare have the ability to participate in field studies in all sectors of the healthcare industry. Last year, over 50 such opportunities were posted to the HBS Field Study website by both emerging companies and well-established organizations.
Recent healthcare-focused field studies include:
- Creeating the strategic plan for a new department including the product roadmap, architecture, budget, staffing, product pricing, additional resources, etc.
- Helping the CEO determine how to manage the business and political issues around the pricing and marketing of prescription drugs
- Analyzing a company's current price positioning for the North American market, conducting a contribution/break-even analysis of its product lines, and presenting strategic recommendations
Working under faculty supervision, teams of three to six students works on a project of strategic importance to the organization and report their recommendations at the end of the term. Teams are expected to conduct research in the field, carry out thoughtful analyses, prepare a report, and make a final presentation - supported by concrete findings and recommendations - to the supervising faculty and, if appropriate, the sponsoring organization. Organizations benefit directly from the student interaction and output. The students are unpaid, although companies are encouraged to supply expenses, and reimburse students for project-related travel.
Students find and develop field study project ideas in many ways. If your company would like to learn more about posting a Field Study opportunity for fall or winter term for student consideration, please see the HBS Career Services website for more detailed information and instructions.
